Arts

Art

We will bring out the best by inspiring learners’ creative design, critical thinking and expression through visual language to hone visual literacy and increase visual awareness.

 

Drama

We will bring out the best by encouraging students’ imagination and promoting empathy through practical tasks, group work and analysis of a variety of play texts.

 

Music

We will bring out the best by expanding students’ creativity and problem-solving skills through practical tasks, group work and analysis of socio-historical contexts of music.

 

 

Business

We will bring out the best by challenging and engaging all learners through interesting lessons that incorporate theory with current business and economic news.  We will prepare our students for the world of work by incorporating links with real businesses wherever possible and embedding a culture of lifelong learning.

 

Computing

Humanities

Geography

We will bring out the best by developing a range of communication, literacy, numeracy, analytical, investigative and decision-making skills to understand how physical processes shape the natural environment of our planet, and how humans interact with these to create a complex global society.

 

Geology

We will bring out the best by encouraging students to develop scientific enquiry and analytical skills, and gain an understanding of the physical processes that have operated on Earth over the last 4.5 billion years.

 

Government and Politics

We will bring out the best by stimulating students’ interest in how the UK and the US is governed and examining key political ideas and movements.

 

History

We will bring out the best by stimulating students’ interest in the past and using this to develop a greater understanding of the present. We will explore how and why the world has changed over time and develop the skills needed for critical evaluation and evidenced-based analysis.

 

Psychology

We will bring out the best by widening students understanding of individuals and the causes behind behaviour.  Students will develop awareness of psychological research conducted around the world and critically assess evidence from competing explanations which offer reasons for why individuals develop behavioural traits.

 

Religious Studies

We will bring out the best by widening and deepening learners’ moral, social and spiritual worlds through exploring world religions and contemporary philosophical and ethical issues.

 

Sociology

We will bring out the best by challenging students to consider society in a new and critical way.  Students will develop awareness of the social world through studying the social institutions, group behaviour and trends, life chances and opportunities, cultural differences and political issues in a historical and contemporary context.

We will develop learners’ skills to help them solve familiar problems and to have the confidence to tackle new ones. 

Learners will see how the world is interconnected by the universal language of mathematics.

 

Media

We will bring out the best by developing creativity and enlightening learners about the scale, effects and impacts of mass media communication and by broadening their thinking about ideologies, representations, audience and industries.

 

Personal Development

We will bring out the best by helping students to recognise their own worth and develop their character and identity, to enable them to take their place in the community as healthy, independent, informed, active and responsible citizens.

 

Physical Education

We will bring out the best in all of our students through high expectations, sustained activity and competition tailored to all abilities. Specialist staff will develop specific skills and identify talent, ensuring all pupils reach their potential whilst developing a positive attitude towards PE and Sport. Students will be encouraged to participate in recreation and to pursue a healthy, active lifestyle.
